This panorama, taken by Robert Pettit, spotlights the excitement of the season’s home opener between the Tennessee Volunteers and the Oklahoma Sooners at one of college football's most iconic landmarks, Neyland Stadium. A Tennessee trademark, the “checkerboard” seen depicted in the crowd is only the second ever in Neyland Stadium history, and is no easy feat when considering that at capacity, 102,455 fans are in attendance for game day festivities. The standout orange and white colors have represented the Volunteers since their inaugural season in 1891, when they were selected by team member, Charles Moore. The colors were those of the common American daisy which grew in profusion on The Hill.
